Problems such as inaccurate bills or contract issues can waste precious time and money for businesses so here at B & J Associates we have put together some practical advice on helping with cash flow for your energy costs during this crisis.

Your business may have a smart meter to measure your energy usage OR for the larger business users you may have what is called a 'half hourly' meter. In both of these cases your energy usage is accurately reported to your energy supplier and therefore your bills will be accurate.

BUT a large percentage of businesses work on 'estimated' readings, usually based on a comparable period in the previous 12 months so you may therefore be currently overpaying.

What we suggest you do:-

1. Take a meter reading  (it's probably a good idea to take a photo as well in the event you are asked to provide this).

2. Compare this meter reading to your last meter reading on your bill.

3. If your actual meter reading is less than your meter reading on your bill then contact your energy provider using the Customer Services number on your bill and give them the actual meter reading.

You should then either receive or refund or (more likely) a credit will be added to your account reducing your future bills.
